Is Oily Skin A Cry for Help?

Avoid Using Harsh Cleansers

Women who have oily skin at 35+ may be using too harsh of a cleanser and that is why their skin is producing so much oil. Moisturizer should always be used as is it an additional barrier between skin and the elements. There are moisturizers that help to control oil production, but making certain that skin is not being over cleansed should be the first step in trying to get oil production back to normal.

Don’t Neglect Oily Skin

Many people with oily skin make the common mistake of skipping the moisturizing step. They fear that it will make the skin more oily and breakouts worse. But here's the deal: oily skin typically occurs when skin is dehydrated or under-moisturized so your body is telling your skin to produce more oil to compensate.

So the key is to find a moisturizer that works for your skin. Look for a product made for oily or acneic skin, or even a lighter serum. Some ingredients to seek are:

  • hyaluronic acid (which draws moisture in without being oily)
  • zinc PCA (which helps to control breakouts),
  • aloe and jojoba to smooth, hydrate and repair skin without clogging pores or leaving skin greasy.
